fairThe Fair and Lovely Foundation of Hindustan Unilever Ltd distributed scholarships up to Rs one lakh to 225 academically exceptional girls from financially challenged backgrounds for higher education, a press note released on Friday said. Among them, 37 were from Andhra Pradesh out of which 11 were from Hyderabad, the release further said. The felicitation ceremony was held in Mumbai and attended by renowned personalities from different backgrounds that had made big in their life. They were Bollywood actress Asin, filmmaker R Balki, politician and fashion designer Shaina NC and Padmashree Lila Poonawala. Speaking at the Foundation's 10th year anniversary, Asin, who was chief guest, said 'I believe that access to basic education is every child's right, more so for a girl child. Fair and Lovely Foundation provides educational scholarships to underprivileged girls who have the zeal and the biggest women-centric issues in our country, therefore, I feel everyone should do their best to support the cause.' Arun Shrinivas, vice-president (skincare) of Hindustan Unilever Ltd, said that the Foundation believes that educating girls would be the single best investment one can make to build a better society.'
