Government has advised all agencies connected to the conduct of EAMCET to eye on the EAMCET-medical as there are more number of applicants for it this year. Cautioning there is scope for all sorts of malpractices in medical stream, officials have been told to make a strict vigil on each and every student who takes the exam. A high-level meeting of senior security officials belonging to police, intelligence and revenue was held on Tuesday which took stock of the situation and arrangements to be made. According to convener of EAMCET Prof N V Ramana Rao, a total 1.06 lakh students have registered their names for EAMCET-medical this year. This in more than 11,000 compared to last year. Interestingly, nearly 30 percent of those applied for EAMCET-medical were old students, i.e. students who passed out in the last few years. The number of applicants has also increased in the successive years. A reason for more number of aspirants was said to be this year being the last year for EAMCET-medical as from next year onwards, students have to write NEET, which is considered to be tougher than the state-level exam.
