Why Civil Services I want to serve the public, plus the job of a civil servant is challenging with diverse roles to play. When I was 25, I made up my mind to write UPSC exam.

My success mantra In my first four attempts, I didn't get through. This time, probably, my job as a History teacher in a Government college in Hyderabad helped me to crack the interview. My communication skills have improved since I communicate with students on an everyday basis. Plus, I was more informed this time and years of practice helped boost my confidence.

Preparation strategy I read leading English newspapers regularly and watched HMTV to stay updated with current affairs. For coaching, I went to Andhra Pradesh Study Circle in Banjara Hills. During the years, I was preparing for UPSC exam, I went to work. I worked as a teacher (which is on even now) and prior to that I worked in Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department. The real preparation used to happen during the 40-day break before the Civil Mains. I studied for ten hours every day.

What next I wish to be a loyal public servant. My primary aim is to ensure that quality education is given to every child. Today's society is 'knowledge society'. It is only through education that empowerment will happen.

Message to students My advice to aspiring civil servants would be to not give up if they fail in the first or second attempt. Keep at it.
