Young Hans Team braouAbout 35 students received gold medals while 29,557 received their degrees, diplomas and certificates at the 20th convocation of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad on Monday. About 26,489 undergraduate candidates qualified of which 12,461 are women and 64 are prisoners. As Governor ESL Narasimhan could not make it to the convocation as the chief guest, Guest of Honour Dr Narendra Jadhav, Member of Planning Commission of India, addressed the gathering. He said, "This is a critical time for our country as the average of age of India today is only 21 years. By 2020, the average age would be 29 years. In 2020, when our average is 29 years, the average in China could be 37. This means that India today has unprecedented opportunities, and we will have very large young population, which is said to be demographic dividend." "Remember that this university has given you the head start, you must remain grateful to your alma mater. Don't ask what your University has done to you, ask what you can do for the University. Learning doesn't end with degree that you received, indeed learning is life-long process," he urged the gathering. Speaking on the achievements made by the University, Vice-Chancellor P Prakash, said it has ranked sixth in distance learning B-schools of India by Competition Success Review Survey 2012. Recently, the University has signed with Dr Reddy Labs and other institutions for new courses. Currently, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University is offering 67 programmes at various levels like Post graduate, Undergraduate, PG diploma certificate courses.
