mak2Guntur Vignan Global Gen School, Saroornagar, Hyderabad, was established in 2003 at Malakpet before it was shifted to its current premises in 2005. "Academics, extra-curricular activities and Indian values � we give equal importance to these three pillars of education and character in our school," says L Rathaiah, Chairman Vignan group of Institutions.

History:A

Guntur Vignan Group of Institutions was established in 1977 and is a pioneer in the field of education. In the last three decades it established one University, seven engineering, three pharmacy, degree & PG colleges, six junior colleges and 20 high schools in Andhra Pradesh. Of 20 high schools in Andhra Pradesh, five are in Hyderabad catering to the needs of all the sections in the society.

Infrastructure: The school with 500 students and 36 faculty members is the only one school in the area to offer CBSE syllabus to the students. There has been special emphasis on having spacious and student-friendly classrooms. "A crammed room means a crammed brain," says Anila, Executive director, Vignan Group of Institutions. Apart from digital boards, school has advanced laboratories where students are given hands-on training in concepts learnt in the theory classes.

Academics: Classes I-V follow Integrated CBSE curriculum and VI- X classes follow both the boards, i.e. CBSE and SSC boards. Teaching methodology involves traditional classroom and interactive, e-class classes, audio video rooms which enhance learning process. The school gives importance to individual attention; the ratio of student to teachers is 1:15. Apart from maintaining regular academics of a student, teachers also maintain records of family background, psychology, discipline and health profile. Under the mentorship programme, each teacher is allotted 20 students which helps the teacher to scrutinise every student.

To provide the quality teaching to students, the school organises orientation classes for teachers at the beginning of the academic year. With expert co-coordinators making rounds every month, the school ensures takes feedback from students as well. The school has CBSE trained teachers with over 15 years experience. Not surprisingly, the school has consistently been producing 100 per cent pass percentage in all the exams. In 2011-12, two students secured 10 on 10 GPA, while 11 students secured 9 on 10 in the SSC board out of 32 students, M Venkat Reddy, Principal, informs.

N Anirudh from Class X CBSE who secured 10th prize in Astronomy Olympiad conducted by NASA says "I just read the preparatory books which were given to me. My teachers and management also helped me a lot in bagging the trophy.

The school has SMS "Unhappy" a special system for parents to send their grievances to the management directly. No school has such system for parents. We go through the complaint filed by the parent and ensure that it will be resolved and at the parent should be happy, says the Principal.

Activities: As part of extra curricular activities, the school has made it mandatory for the students to speak on current social issues during the Assembly. The school has produced several national and state players in several sports. "Our students have excelled in swimming, badminton, skating, karate, volley ball, cricket at national, state level," says Rajakumari, Vice principal. "I won three trophies in Under-14 group All India Tennis Association.

I practice six hours a day. The school management supported me by giving me permission to practice," says Y Chikitha Reddy, XI student, CBSE. The management also gives fee concession for students who excel in sports. "At national level swimming competition, I won a gold medal; although I am not regular to school, the management has given me permission to write exams and also a fee concession." Every year, the school conducts Vignanostav, science exhibition, fun fest, kid's carnival, annual day as part of its school calendar.

Campus talk: "The best thing about my school is the student-teacher ratio which ensures individual attention to every student," says V Lalitha, Class X (CBSE). "I love the homely atmosphere here. The orientation classes conducted for teachers keeps staffers like me motivated and updated with the latest teaching methodologies. It has helped me a lot in this journey of 12 years", says RajaKumari, Vice principal.
