Started in 1977, with the urge to provide best education to all sections in the society, Lavu Educational Society was founded by Dr L Rathaiah in Guntur. In less than a decade, with the same enthusiasm and better experience, Vignan Tutorials and Vignan High school was started in 1982 and 1983 respectively. The prime purpose of starting the educational society is to provide quality education in rural areas of Andhra Pradesh. "Our vision is to evolve into a centre of excellence in science & technology through creative and innovative practices in teaching-learning, promoting academic achievement and research excellence," says, Dr L Rathaiah, Founder, Chairman, Vignan Group of Institutions, Andhra Pradesh.
History To provide best education from schooling to post graduation, in the last three decades, Lavu Educational Society has established 19 schools, five junior colleges, one degree college, one PG school, eight engineering colleges, three pharmacy colleges and Vignan University. "We believe in doing everything whole heartedly. We never leave room for half measures," says the Founder. Of 19 schools in Andhra Pradesh, eight are in Hyderabad. Vignan Global Gen School in Madinaguda was established in 1995. The school which was established with just 260 students with faculty members now has a strength of 1,100 students with over 70 faculty members.
Infrastructure Located in the suburbs, the school is spread on greenery which provides best place for learning. Most of the teaching takes place in the classroom. The school uses digital boards to encourage interactive teaching methods. Apart from the routine class lectures, students are exposed to practicality in the laboratories. "Apart from the regular practicals in school, our students go to other branches, and engineering colleges to gain best knowledge from highly qualified professors," says V Helavathy, Principal, Vignan Global Gen School, Madinaguda.
Academics The school follows both CBSE and SSC syllabus from nursery to Class X. "Globalisation is the keyword today. We expose our students to the world with Indian values. Teaching methodology involves both the traditional methods and interactive class rooms. The school believes in holistic development of the children. For the holistic development of a students, the school follows IEPS (Intelligence quotient, emotional quotient, physical quotient, social quotient), system. Interactive classroom teaching involves activity based learning. "We have a mentorship programme where each mentor gets 15 students who records the performance of the students and counsels them if required," says the principal. The school has unique system SMS- Unhappy for the grievances from the parents. "SMS - Unhappy system will provide parents to send their grievances to the central office of Vignan institutions. We follow up the problem till it is resolved and students and parents are satisfied," she adds.
Co-curricular activities To ensure students are fighting fit without falling prey to obesity and related diseases, the school has unique programme where students are made to participate in the regular drill every morning. "Each and every student is made to take part in the drill before the assembly that boosts their performance. In the afternoon, after lunch hour, students are made to sit for mediation. Most of the afternoon classes are interactive," says the principal. Besides regular drills, the school conducts inter-house competition among the clubs Agni, Vayu, Prithivi and Jal. As part of the social responsibility, the school conducts many awareness programme on water harvesting, eco-friendly Ganesh etc.
