modelAmodel EAMCET examination conducted by Student Federation of India (SFI) on Sunday drew huge response from the student community across the state. Nearly 62,000 students took the exam conducted at 327 centres in all districts- particularly in rural areas. The exam has provided an opportunity for the Intermediate students of rural areas to have a chance of mock test, its pattern. The exam paperboth engineering and medical was tough to an extent and gave students anxious moments to crack some of the questions. This was the 12th year SFI had successfully conducted the test. Eminent educationist and former MLC Chukka Ramaiah was an advisor for this test. Prof S Satyanarayana, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University, has formally released the question paper booklets. "Corporate colleges, located mostly in cities and major towns, have been conducting mock tests for their students every day, every week. So, the students get enough practice there. But for rural students, SFI test has been only source. Going by the question papers, I find it no way inferior to that of general EAMCET papers. Some of the questions were even tough" he said. Chukka Ramaiah in his speech remarked that where governments failed to do, SFI could do. "There has been no change in EAMCET format for the past 30 years. It has been more or less the same. If you don't bring about changes in a competitive world, you will always be at the bottom" he said. Lamenting engineering education losing its sheen over the years, he called for thorough introspection on why students from AP have been failing in the first year of their study at IITs. "Out of the 716 engineering colleges in the state, very few have been providing quality education. We have more than 3 lakh seats in all but the quality of students coming out of engineering colleges have been just 20 percent" Ramaiah said. SFI leaders- S Noor Ahmed, P Lakshmaiah, Shobhan, Sambasiva and others have monitored the conduct of exam.
