Over 28,000 take CA CPT exam from State

More than 28,000 commerce and science students have appeared for CA CPT ( Chartered Accountants Common Proficiency Test) held on Sunday at five centres in the state- Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupathi and Guntur. More than 10,000 aspirants have taken the exam, which is an entry level test for Chartered Accountant course from the twin cities.

The ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) conducted this exam in two sessions for two hours each for four papers- Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The candidates found it some what difficult in answering some complex questions in Mercantile law and quantitative aptitude.

The paper of quantitative aptitude may be the deciding factor, according to students of science who appeared for the exam. Intermediate (Plus two) pass outs, who have registered themselves with ICAI are eligible to take this course. People taking this course have been on the rise for the past few years, according to Rajesh Agarwal, Head, CA wing of Badruka College in Hyderabad. "As admissions for engineering and other regular professional courses have reached a saturation point, parents and students are now looking at the business-related courses.

But the pass percentage in CA CPT is rather less � i.e. around 25 per cent only -though more number of students have been taking this exam" he told The Hans India. Interestingly, students with MPC and BiPC have also been opting for this course of late and if this trend continues, no doubt, AP's share of Chartered Accountants will increase in future" Rajesh said.
