- It's a A good A practice test: Convener Chukka Ramaiah modelStudent Federation of India will be conducting its model EAMCET on April 14. Nearly a lakh students are expected to attend this annual examination, aimed to give a glimpse of the all important entrance test for admission into professional courses. Eminent educationist and former MLC Chukka Ramaiah, who is the convener of this model entrance has advised the students to make use of this opportunity as it is no way inferior to the general model tests that are being conducted by corporate institutions. "Students from well-to-do families can go for coaching institutes where as the poor students from rural areas have no such opportunity. SFI has been conducting this model test for the past 12 years and over 82,000 students availed this chance last year," he said at a media meet at Hyderabad on Thursday. Lamenting that the quality of engineering education is on the wane, Ramaiah said the availability of seats is more than the number of students. "We have 716 engineering colleges with more than 3 lakh seats. But, let me tell you, more than 70 percent students have been failing in the first year itself. Only 20 percent of students have been good at studies and the remaining are substandard. Government should seriously ponder over on this malady," he exhorted. "Gold medals will be presented to those who come out top in engineering and medical streams of SFI model test which would be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm on April 14. Students can approach the local SFI offices with two pass port size photos and a fee of Rs 40. They can also contact 94900 98057 or 94900 98684," Noor Mohammed and Pagadal Lakshmaiah, leaders of SFI said.
