Geetanjali High School in Ashok Nagar, Hyderabad, puts moral education as its priority followed by academics and sports. The school which won the Golden Nandi award for Baapu Kalalukanna Desam in Balala Natika at Khammam in 2010 has award-winning teachers and super achievers in academics, sports and Fine Arts. History
Geetanjali High School was first established by J Ramesh and S Pushpalatha on June 10, 1982, in Himayath Nagar. Initially, the strength of the school was 120 with seven teachers. In 1994, CS Rao, the correspondent of the school, who is also a stage screenplay writer-producer and N Shantha, principal and secretary, took over the school. The correspondent of the school is also the member of the script panel of National Film Development Corporation. In 1997, the school shifted to Ashok Nagar for practical reasons.
Infrastructure
The school has 700 students with 30 teaching and 7 non-teaching staff. The school under CCTV surveillance has a play ground, computer lab, science lab besides library and also audio visual rooms. Academics The school follows both CBSE till Class V and State Board of Education for high school with interactive methods of teaching. The students have remedial classes and a NIE (newspaper in education) class to develop reading skills.IIT foundation is also given to high school students.
Co-Curricular Activitiessc1
Every year, Geetanjali celebrates sports day and annual day, Teachers day, children's day and all the festivals including science fair on a grand scale. Sports get equal importance. Every Saturday, they have activities related to subject-wise clubs. In those clubs, according to the subject the activities are conducted. Activities such as essay writing, elocution, singing etc are organised. They have four houses, namely Ambedkar (Red), Tagore (green), Gandhi(blue), Andhra Kesari (Yellow). Dance and abacus classes are conducted. They celebrate every festival in the school to keep up the traditional values and upholds among the children. Field trips are organised every month and excursion for high school every year.
Achievements
sc2The school has achieved 100% pass percentage in all these years. They have participated in district level in sports such as volleyball, football and kabbadi. Class X student B Rohit was selected for volleyball in National level. Moni Prashanth , Class X student won gold medal in Karate. The school stands first in academics in Himayathnagar Mandal and seventh in Hyderabad mandal. Nassar Abdullah , Class X student, participated in lawn tennis in state level while G Shafil from Class Xhas been selected in the first round of metro rail brand ambassador. The school won Golden Nandi award in Baapu Kalalukanna Desam for Balala Natika in Khammam. The principal won Mother Theresa Award from She foundation for her service in the field of education and also best teacher award by Lion Clubs. P Sai Charan acted in few Telugu commercial movies such as Vikramarkudu, Style and Happy.
Campus Talks
sc3Shazia Naaz from Class IX said, "My Principal and teachers are very supportive and motivating. They are very kind hearted and impart practical knowledge too. My siblings also studied here. My brother stood seventh in State in his Class X board examinations," she added. Matilda, English teacher, who has been working in the school for the last 25 years. " It has been a very long journey and I loved every moment of it here. "I am very strict when it comes to hand writing and spoken English. But it helps students do well in exams and life," she adds. Principal N Shantha said that after teaching for 25 years, she has learnt to handle weak students and slow learners. "I wanted to help them in every aspect. In 2010, I did my diploma in guidance and counseling from Mysore RIE. I started guiding them besides giving them moral education and counseling classes. All my teachers as well as the management work together like a family. There is no seniority shown here. We are all in the same league," she added. A Vijaya Lakshmi, English and social teacher, said, "I have been working here for the past 15 years. My children also In a nutshell, we follow simple living, high thinking policy," she added. P Sai Kumar, Class IX student who did his entire schooling here said, "Unlike many friends in my coIony, I enjoy coming to school. I've learnt to speak English fluently. My most memorable moment is when we received prize for volleyball."
