Around 100 more Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers will be recruited with the government recently granting approval to an ambitious cadre restructuring in the Income Tax department. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy making and administrative body of the I-T department, has recently asked the Union Public Service Commission to include the plan of recruiting more officers in their cadre through the all India civil services examination.

The recruitment is expected to happen as early as the next Civil services exam announcement. Till now, the IRS (Income Tax) cadre has 130-150 officers who used to join the department after getting trained at their alma mater at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur in Maharashtra. A total of 230-250 IRS officers would then be recruited and trained to join as Assistant Commissioners at various I-T offices in the country, sources said.
