Astronomy enthusiasts and amateurs of Bhavan’s Vivekananda college of Science, Humanities and Commerce, started an astronomy club and have named it ‘ASTRONOMIA’ with P Suraj as the Student coordinator, assisted by Sriram Iyer and Amit Panda.
The objective of the club is to provide a platform for the members, who nurture a common interest in the subject astronomy, to share, discuss, debate on their favorite subject.

Col M Vijaya Rao, Director, BVC, said that he himself as a student had immense passion for astronomy and wanted to be a member of the club as well. He expressed his surprise with the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge showcased by the students. He was happy for the students for having come up with the idea and for the Department of Physics and Electronics for providing the necessary platform.
Suraj presented an amazing presentation on Solar flares which only reflected his absolute passion for the subject. Sriram Iyer presented on Galactic wind, Ankush Phani on Comets, Priyanka on Why Pluto is no more a planet Deepshika Agrawal on Sun, Archana Narayanan on Solar System. The event was hosted by Joshua John.

Astronmia members also visited the Department of Astronomy, Osmania University and met, Prof. Yellaiah and Prof. SN Hasan to get idea on activities that they can plan and also to explore about types of telescopes. They were fortunate to have a short and informative session with Prof. SN Hasan.

To start with they had a Poster Presentation on varied topics related to astronomy. Oral presentations, guest lectures, film screening etc observatory visits are also on chords. The college is also planning to have their own telescope shortly.
