Vignan’s University, Guntur, hosted a national seminar on ‘Foreign Direct Investment in retail sector in India: Issues and Challenges’. While delivering the keynote address Parag Ola, Vice- President, Achievers Zone India, Mumbai, said that there is need for training the youth for employment in organised retail sector as it would require about 6 million sales personnel in the next couple of years.

Parag also felt that his company has a comprehensive and dedicated team to train large member of youth aspiring to seek employment in organizing retailing. He has expressed interest to enter into an MOU with VU for this purpose. Dr YV Rao, Convener of the seminar, said that the impact of FDI in retail sector on employment and price realisation by the primary produces and consumer are being watched keenly.

Dr Purushotham, HoD, School of Management Studies, felt that the worldwide experience of modern, multi brand retail sector needs to the analysed so as to avoid any pitfalls in safe guarding the employment in retail sector in India. He further observed that the FDI in retail sector should result in increasing the efficiency in supply chain management in farm produce.
A Leela Mohan Rao, Registrar, Vignan’s University, said that such seminars encourage the spirit of enquiry, debate and discussion along with students.
Professors, faculty, students of School of Management Studies and delegates from various institutes were present on this occasion.
