Hyderabad: The National Service Scheme (NSS) team organised celebrations of the Bathukamma festival at the NSS Park situated near the new sports complex at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) recently.

The students and staff were highly enthusiastic about the celebrations and participated with zeal as they decked up in colourful half sarees tapping their feet to the tunes of the Bathukamma songs.

Bathukamma represents the cultural spirit of Telangana. ‘Bathukamma' means ‘mother goddess come alive’ and goddess Maha Gauri-‘life giver’ where the goddess is worshipped in the form of Bathukamma – the patron goddess of womanhood (Maha Gauri Devi). Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack, arranged with different unique seasonal flowers most of them with medicinal value, in seven concentric layers in the shape of potter’s clay like a cone.

NSS coordinator Dr V Srinivasa Rao and his team of students worked to ensure that all arrangements were in place to hold these celebrations at the UoH campus.
