Hyderabad: Vivekananda Residential School (VRS), Karimnagar felicitated Dr Daram Nagabhushanam. He will be conferred the national award for senior citizens by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on October 1st which is celebrated as International day of older persons, for providing un-tiring service to the rural poor in Karimnagar town for more than six decades.
He will be receiving prestigious national award for senior citizens — Vayoshreshtha Samman by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Centenarian' Category. Dr Nagabhushanam, who is stated to be the first doctor to serve Karimnagar district since Independence, is thrilled and excited about his selection for the national award.
Dr. Nagabhushanam, a TB specialist and popularly called 'TB doctor', completed his medical course from Osmania University in 1952. He served in the public sector for 13 years by working in various Public Health Centers. Later, he started his own practice by opening a clinic in Boyawada in Karimnagar town in 1965. He was the first doctor to provide x-ray screening facility in Karimnagar town.
In order to inspire the present generation and help promote values, Dr. Nagabhushanam also plays a crucial role in the campaign against corruption, protection of environment, protection of girl child, water conservation, etc. by distributing posters and leaf-lets in the district. During the summer months, he also sets up a drinking water kiosk to quench the thirst of citizens.
