New Delhi: A student of Vasant Valley School here has been awarded Britain's University of Bath's 'Young India Student of the Year' award for an essay competition.Namit Makhija emerged as the winner among school students across India who participated in the competition.

Students of Class 11 and 12 were invited to write an essay of maximum 2,000 words on the topic 'Would India benefit from more open trade - for example with the UK?'. Makhija, whose essay was backed by research, several graphs and GDP data, was awarded Rs 2.67 lakh approximately. The joint runners-up for the competition were Apoorv Goyal of Welham Boys School, Dehradun and Vaibhav Gupta of Gurgaon-based Delhi Public School.
