Bypolls: TN CM Vijay holds roadshow in Madurantakam
Madurantakam (Tamil Nadu): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK founder C Joseph Vijay on Friday held a roadshow here seeking votes for his party's nominee Maragatham Kumaravel for the bypolls to be held on October 6 for the Madurantakam Assembly Constituency.
The CM in his campaign vehicle covered over 30 villages and a cluster of neighbourhoods falling under the Madurantakam segment, about 100 km away from Chennai.
People gathered in front of their houses in villages and in thoroughfares around semi-urban neighbourhoods to take a quick glimpse of the TVK chief.
All along, Vijay waved at the waiting people, greeted them with folded hands and sought votes for the party. Also, TVK workers held cultural programmes and dance shows in town squares to entertain the people who waited to see the chief minister.
The bypolls in Madurantakam and Dharapuram were necessitated as legislators Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama quit their MLA posts and also their memberships from the AIADMK.
Subsequently, they joined the ruling TVK and have been renominated from the same segments, while Opposition parties have levelled allegations of horse-trading against the ruling party, which has turned out to be a key electoral issue.
