Apple’s long-awaited smart home display may soon become a reality, with the company reportedly preparing to unveil a device called HomeView at its Welcome Home event on Tuesday, October 13. However, buyers may have to wait until mid-November to get their hands on it, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman reported that the HomeView will feature Apple’s A18 chip and serve as a central hub for managing connected devices through Siri. Designed for homes running on Apple’s ecosystem, the display will come in two versions: a countertop model with a metal speaker base and a wall-mounted variant with a flat, square base beneath the screen.

The countertop version is expected in space gray, silver, starlight and pink, while the wall-mounted model will reportedly be available in space gray and silver. Gurman noted that the mid-November release schedule remains tentative, adding that it holds "at least as of now".

HomeView to offer limited Apple apps

Apple appears to be positioning HomeView as a convenient screen for everyday household tasks rather than a full-fledged tablet. Users will reportedly be able to interact with it through voice commands and touch, making it suitable for quick checks and smart home controls.

Unlike an iPad, the device will support a limited selection of Apple apps and will not include an App Store for downloading additional applications. Gurman also reported that it will deliver better sound than the new HomePod mini.

The HomeView name first surfaced in a trademark filing by a shell company in September 2024. Apple's smart home plans have reportedly faced delays as the company worked on its revamped Siri.

Apple expands its smart home lineup

Beyond the display, Apple is preparing additional connected home products through its partnership with LG Electronics. The planned range includes a smart doorbell, deadbolt lock, thermostat, temperature sensor, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and a floodlight camera. LG will manufacture and support these products, which are not expected before later this year at the earliest.

Apple is calling this range the Apple Home Collection. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric is collaborating with Apple on energy products for European markets.

The refreshed HomePod mini is expected to feature an S10 chip and come in pink, white, green, blue and midnight. The next Apple TV could receive an A19 chip, alongside potential built-in Siri microphones and a remote with a speaker to make it easier to locate.

Apple has not yet announced pricing or availability in India. The event starts at 9 am ET (6:30 pm IST), with an online video presentation and an in-person media event in New York.
