Apple Says Over 1 Lakh Apps Are Now Optimised For iPhone Duo
In Short
Apple says more than 100,000 apps now support the iPhone Duo, as developers work to improve the experience on its foldable display.

Apples foldable iPhone Duo
Apples foldable iPhone Duo is catching the eye of app developers with than 100,000 applications reported to be optimised for the iPhone Duo within just two weeks of the iPhone Duo launch. The rising number of supported apps shows that developers are working fast to adapt to the foldable design of the iPhone Duo. Still people wonder if these updates are enough to give an experience, on both displays of the iPhone Duo.
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27.1. Has a wider internal screen that appears when the iPhone Duo is unfolded. This gives users space to browse, watch content and multitask but it also brings challenges for apps that were built for normal smartphone screens. Apple says developers are tackling these changes with thousands of applications updated each day.
As per a report by The Verge, Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, expressed satisfaction with the response from the developer community.
“It's been wonderful to see how quickly developers have embraced iPhone Duo, and we're grateful for their creativity and innovation,” Prescott said in a statement.
She also pointed out that the number of optimized applications, on the App Store keeps growing as more developers update their software to work with the device. Having many compatible apps doesn’t always mean a better experience. Some apps still show design problems when used on the bigger screen.
Why some apps still struggle on iPhone Duo
Soon after the device became available, users began pointing out interface problems in several popular apps. Instagram was among them, despite carrying Apple's 'Made for iPhone Duo' label. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri also described the foldable as a “bit of a tricky form factor”.
The main challenge is adapting an application to two different screen sizes. An interface that looks perfectly fine on a regular iPhone may not work as expected when the device is unfolded.
Some older apps continue to appear in smaller windows, leaving large empty areas around them. Others stretch their existing layouts across the wider display, which can affect the placement of buttons, images and navigation options.
Apple encourages developers to update their apps
Apple wants developers to use the latest iOS 27.1 software development kit (SDK) to build applications that can take full advantage of the foldable display.
With the updated tools, developers can create layouts that adjust automatically when users fold or unfold their devices. They can also make better use of the additional screen space by displaying multiple sections side by side instead of simply enlarging existing interfaces.
Although the company says all apps can run on the iPhone Duo, applications built using the newer development tools are better positioned to deliver an experience designed around its foldable display.
