Apple’s Robotic Smart Display Could Follow Your Voice
In Short
Apple is reportedly developing a premium smart display with a robotic arm that can track voices and automatically turn toward people.

Apple’s Robotic Smart Display Could Follow Your Voice
Apple seems to be pushing its home plans even further. It is working on a device that can move around to follow conversations. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman the company is developing a smart home product. This product includes a display mounted on a motorised robotic arm. The design suggests a move, toward interactive and responsive home technology.
The screen can turn all the way around rotating 360 degrees so it can face any person who is talking. This change would be a step forward, for Apple’s smart home plans and could give living rooms and other rooms in the house a more interactive feel.
A screen designed to move with you
Internally known as “J595,” the device is reportedly being developed as a more advanced version of Apple’s recently launched “HomeView” smart display. Unlike the standard HomeView, which features a fixed 7-inch screen, the new premium model is expected to use a larger 9-inch display mounted on a robotic arm.
Its ability to move automatically could be the device’s biggest selling point. Using voice recognition technology, the display would reportedly identify where a person is speaking from and turn in their direction.
For instance, someone moving around the kitchen during a family video call could potentially remain visible on screen as the device physically adjusts its position to follow them.
Apple is reportedly positioning the robotic display as a high-end product rather than a replacement for the existing HomeView. The standard model currently costs $299, while the new robotic version has not received an official price. Earlier reports, however, have suggested a price of around $1,000.
Apple is also said to be considering names including “HomeView Pro,” “HomeView Max,” or “HomeView 360” for the device.
Apple faces a tough smart home battle
The product could become part of Apple’s broader effort to compete more aggressively with Google Nest and Amazon Echo products, which currently have a strong presence in the smart home market.
However, Apple’s smart home push has already faced setbacks. The launch of the base HomeView was reportedly delayed by around two years because of software problems involving the new AI-powered Siri. Finished devices were even said to have remained in warehouses during the delays.
Software limitations could also prove challenging. The current HomeView reportedly depends heavily on a connected iPhone and does not have a dedicated app store. The absence of major services such as YouTube and Netflix could make it harder for Apple to persuade users to move away from established Google or Amazon ecosystems.
The robotic display could therefore be an ambitious attempt to give Apple’s smart home lineup a distinctive edge, but its success may ultimately depend as much on software as on its eye-catching hardware.
