OpenAI is launching a new ChatGPT feature designed to make online shopping easier. The AI chatbot will now let you virtually try on clothes-giving you, perhaps, a better idea of how a new shirt or jacket would look on you-before you buy it online.

The virtual try-on feature comes alongside a "Favourites" option that lets you save products to view later.

To use this feature, you need to upload a selfie or a full-body photo to ChatGPT. The AI then uses that image to show you how a garment or accessory would look on you in real life. The feature appears as a new "Try On" button within ChatGPT's shopping results. You can also upload an image of an item and ask ChatGPT to generate a try-on image.

According to the company, this feature uses its ChatGPT Images 2.5 model. This model reportedly offers more natural lighting and richer textures, while also being more reliable at following instructions and offering lower latency during image generation. OpenAI stated that these improvements aim to create more realistic and convincing try-on previews.

The second feature, called "Favourites," allows you to save products you discover to a library within the app so you can view them again later. According to the company, saved products will appear alongside the try-on images, integrating both tools into a single space within the app.

OpenAI notes that ChatGPT can also be used for other shopping-related tasks. You can describe a style you want to try, and the AI chatbot will find the garments needed to complete the outfit. You can also upload photos of celebrity outfits and ask ChatGPT to identify items available for purchase. OpenAI’s virtual try-on tool also resembles a feature Google introduced to its search engine in 2025, which allows users to upload photos and see themselves wearing different garments.

However, OpenAI wants users to be aware of the images they upload. By default, images uploaded from a personal account may be used to train the model, unless the user opts out. Both new features are currently rolling out to ChatGPT users worldwide.
