If you are using an Android phone please pay attention. Indian's Computer Emergency Response Team, known as CERT‑In has issued a high‑risk security alert, for Android. The alert warns that several weaknesses could let attackers get into your Android device and steal data. The government’s cybersecurity group recommends that you install the latest software updates away. The alert applies to Android versions and covers several core parts of the Android operating system.
What is the warning about?
CERT-In has found security flaws in several Android versions that could let hackers attack phones. These security flaws are rated as severity and touch the following Android versions:
• Android 14
• Android 15
• Android 16
• Android 16 QPR2
• Android 17
The team says that these vulnerabilities cover Android parts. These vulnerabilities are found in Android Runtime, DocumentsUI, MediaTek Framework, Media Codecs, MediaProvider, Telephony, UWB and Wi‑Fi. I think it is important to see that these vulnerabilities touch areas of Android.
Some of these flaws could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code, gain elevated system privileges, access sensitive information, or trigger denial-of-service conditions.
Simply put these vulnerabilities give hackers a path to reach parts of an Android phone that should normally stay off‑limits. Depending on the vulnerability and the way it is used these vulnerabilities could put personal information stored on the device at risk.
