Samsung has launched the Galaxy A08 4G in India, a new budget smartphone equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery and the MediaTek Helio G99 processor. The company has also announced the upcoming arrival of the Galaxy M08 4G and Galaxy F08 4G models.

Its main selling point is software support. Samsung promises six major operating system updates and six years of security updates—a rarity in this price segment.

Galaxy A08 price and availability in India

The Galaxy A08 4G costs Rs 18,499 for the model that has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This phone comes in Dark Blue, Silver and Green. It can be bought from Samsung's store stores that only sell Samsung products, other retailers that work with Samsung and many other online places. People who want to buy it can also choose to pay in installments without any interest as long as they use the right kind of payment method.

The Galaxy M08 and Galaxy F08 have one version that includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Samsung has not shared the prices for these phones. The colours they will come in or when they will be available, for sale.

Display and performance

The Galaxy A08 4G has a 6.7‑inch HD+ LCD screen that refreshes at 90 Hz and a tiny water‑drop notch for the camera. The Galaxy A08 4G runs on a MediaTek Helio G99 chip. You can add up to 2 TB of storage with a microSD card, which's handy because the India model only has 64 GB inside. The Galaxy A08 4G also keeps a 3.5‑mm headphone jack.

Cameras

On the back there is a 50 MP camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. An 8 MP front-facing camera takes selfies. Supports video calls.

Battery and durability

The phone comes with a 6,000 mAh battery. Supports 25W wired charging. Samsung does not include the charger in the box. It also has an IP64 rating, which means it is protected against dust and water splashes.

These are the two upgrades compared to last year’s Galaxy A07 4G. That model had a 5,000 mAh battery and an IP54 rating.

No 5G support

All three phones are 4G-. Because 5G phones can already be found at a price, buyers must decide which is more important to them: software updates that last many years or a faster network.

Why the update promise matters

Most budget phones get updates for two or three years. When a phone offers six years of operating system and security updates it stays supported and safe for much longer. This is a deal for people who keep their phones for many years or, for those who buy one for their parents. It means the phone stays reliable and protected over time.
