WhatsApp Brings Full Emoji Support to Apple Watch for Faster Replies

WhatsApp is launching a feature for Apple Watch users that makes the process easier to react to messages using emojis. After a test launch WhatsApp now offers the entire set of emojis that watchOS provides, giving Apple Watch users many options directly from their smartwatch.

WhatsApp Expands Emoji Reactions on Apple Watch

WhatsApp launched its Apple Watch app late last year. The Apple Watch app can show call notifications, voice messages, chat history and emoji reactions.

The app represented an expansion for WhatsApp on watchOS, a platform that before this release had a more limited experience centered mainly on notifications and quick replies.

However, emoji reactions started with a problem. Users could only pick from six symbols when they wanted to react to a message.

Full watchOS Emoji Library Now Available

A famous publication reports that WhatsApp is now letting people, on the Apple Watch use the emoji picker.

Users can still long-press a message to view the six default reactions. However, they now have access to an expanded emoji picker that includes recently used emojis and the system's full library.

Eight Emoji Categories Available

The expanded picker organises emojis into eight categories: Smileys, Nature, Food, Activity, Travel, Objects, Symbols, and Flags.

Users can scroll through the categories and tap on one to browse the available emojis. Recently used emojis also appear at the top, making it easier to find frequently used reactions.

This means Apple Watch users no longer need to reach for their iPhone just to select an emoji that isn't among the six default reactions. The rollout of the WhatsApp feature may take some time.

The expanded emoji reactions feature is officially rolling out, but it may not appear immediately on all Apple Watches.

As is the case with many WhatsApp features, the company is expected to roll it out gradually. According to a famous publication, it could take several weeks for the full emoji picker to become available to all compatible users.
