Apple Set to Unveil Smarter Siri at WWDC 2026

Apple is widely expected to place artificial intelligence at the centre of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, with a major overhaul of Siri likely to headline the event. The conference begins later today, and reports suggest Apple is preparing to showcase its biggest Siri upgrade in years.

The company first introduced Apple Intelligence in 2024 as its answer to AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. However, despite those ambitions, Siri has struggled to match competing AI assistants and still relies on ChatGPT for handling many advanced queries.

That could soon change.

According to reports, Apple recently signed an agreement with Google to integrate Gemini AI models into Siri, marking a significant shift in the company’s AI strategy. Bloomberg reports that the new Siri project, internally called “Campo,” is designed to transform Siri from a traditional voice assistant into a more intelligent AI companion capable of handling tasks across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

The revamped Siri is expected to use personal data from users’ devices and Apple accounts to provide more context-aware assistance. It may also gain the ability to understand on-screen content and interact more deeply with both Apple and third-party apps through voice commands.

Reports suggest Siri could soon perform more advanced tasks such as drafting emails using information from calendars, notes, contacts, emails, and web content. Users may also be able to ask Siri to check their schedule before creating appointments or identify overlapping calendar events automatically.

Apple is also expected to introduce a redesigned Siri interface. Instead of the current glowing screen border introduced with Apple Intelligence, Siri may now appear within the Dynamic Island alongside a darker animation when activated through voice or the power button.

Another reported addition is a new “Search or Ask” interface accessible through a swipe-down gesture from the top centre of the screen. The feature is expected to combine Siri suggestions, recent searches, frequently used apps, and contextual updates such as weather information into one unified page.

Siri’s responses may also appear in rich-card formats displaying information related to people, weather, sports, news, reminders, notes, contacts, and messages.

Apple may further expand Siri’s visual intelligence capabilities inside the Camera app. New features could include recognising nutrition labels, reading contact details, extracting calendar information from images, and identifying objects more accurately.

The company is reportedly developing additional AI-powered photo tools as well, including “Extend” for expanding images beyond their original frame and “Reframe” for adjusting the perspective of spatial photos. Apple is also expected to improve the existing Clean Up feature after users complained about inconsistent object removal results.

One of the most significant changes could be Siri’s evolution into a conversational chatbot. Reports indicate users may be able to switch between external AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini directly within Siri. The assistant may also support multiple actions in a single request, such as checking weather conditions, creating calendar events, and sending messages simultaneously.

Apple is also believed to be working on a standalone Siri app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The app may include chat history, conversation summaries, iCloud syncing, file attachments, image uploads, and privacy options for automatically deleting conversations after a selected period.

Apart from Siri, Apple is expected to announce broader AI integration across its ecosystem, including new tools for developers through a reported CoreAI framework. Updates to iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 are also anticipated.

Although Apple may unveil these features at WWDC 2026, reports suggest the upgraded Siri experience could roll out later this year, likely alongside the iPhone 18 series and iOS 27 launch. The new Siri may initially launch with a beta label.
