This semester, Indian college students have one less expense to stress over - provided Google's latest offer works out in their favour. The tech giant is handing eligible students in India a full year of Google AI Plus at no cost, unlocking Gemini's AI toolkit without the usual monthly fee attached.

Normally priced at Rs 399 per month in India, the subscription would typically add up to nearly Rs 4,800 over a year, making this a fairly generous freebie. The timing lines up with Google's broader push to make Gemini more useful for academic life, rolling out features like a dedicated student hub, study notebooks, interactive visual tools, and more robust research capabilities.

What's Included in the Free Plan

Students who qualify get access to Gemini Omni, along with double the usual usage limits and a generous 400GB of cloud storage. Beyond that, Google is layering in a handful of AI-powered study tools across Gemini and Search.

Among the standout additions is a new student hub built directly into Gemini, bundling together study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes in a single space.

The study notebooks feature works with material students already have - lecture notes, class handouts, and similar resources can be uploaded, and Gemini builds a personalized study plan around them. It can also run a quick diagnostic quiz to spot weak areas before generating smaller, targeted lessons and follow-up quizzes.

Interactive visualisations are another notable addition, useful for moments when a textbook explanation just doesn't click. Gemini can generate interactive 3D models, tables, and visual breakdowns to simplify tricky concepts.

Gemini Live is also gaining a Deep Research capability, letting students kick off a research task, step away, and return once Gemini has compiled a full report - which they can then discuss and question conversationally.

How Students Can Claim the Offer

To activate the free one-year Google AI Plus plan, eligible college students in India will need to go through Google's student verification process and complete the sign-up steps.

While the offer is free for the first twelve months, it's worth reviewing the fine print during sign-up - including eligibility criteria, the verification steps involved, and what happens once the promotional year wraps up.

Separately, Google is also offering students a bundled deal on Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium, available at a discount of up to 70 per cent.
