Wanaparthy: Commemorating the 31st National Highway and Road Safety awareness programme in Pebbair mandal of Wanaparthy district on Tuesday, the Road Transport and Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) department authorities of Pebbair conducted a road safety awareness seminar to the students and advised them to follow road safety measures while driving their vehicles and urged them to avoid accidents and save their lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Road Transport officer Satish from Pebbair said that particularly youth were more venerable to accidents because of their unawareness about the road safety rules and regulations. "Road safety is very important. Particularly the students must get aware of the road safety measures and play a vital role in spreading the information to others. Besides auto-rickshaw drivers who overload, the students and their parents are also violating the road safety measures and sometimes instead of two on a bike they carry three persons against the vehicle capacity. These kinds of violations may look small, but they can lead to dangerous accidents," said Satish.
He also added that some parents were handing over vehicles to their minor children which is a violation and the parents could be punished for this. The students must also become aware of road safety measures and should abide by the traffic rules.
Adding further, Pebbair Sub Inspector Raghavender Reddy, who took part as chief guest for the awareness programme, said majority accidents are caused due to over speed and negligence of vehicle drivers. Triple riding, lack of wearing helmets, overloading in autos, tractors and other vehicles, cell phone driving, drunk and driving etc are major causes of road accidents. Mandal Education Officer Jayaramulu, teachers from Zilla Parishad High School and students participated in the awareness programme.
