Building a Healthy Society Through Sports: District Collector Adarsh Surabhi
Wanaparthy District: To foster a healthy lifestyle among the youth, the 'Badminton Championship-2026' was inaugurated at the Abhi Arena Indoor Stadium in the town on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, under the aegis of the District Youth and Sports Department. District Collector Adarsh Surabhi attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the championship. He also picked up a racket, played for a short while, and encouraged the participating athletes.
Earlier, he paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector stated that sports play a pivotal role in fostering not only physical health but also mental well-being, discipline, perseverance, and self-confidence. He advised students and the youth to prioritize sports alongside their academics. He noted that participating in sports helps cultivate a healthy lifestyle while instilling values such as sportsmanship, discipline, and team spirit. The Collector commended the participation of approximately 150 players in the district-level badminton championship. He expressed the hope that every participant would compete with true sportsmanship, accepting both victory and defeat with equanimity while showcasing their talent. He extended his best wishes to all the players.
The Collector appreciated Muralidhar, the organizer of Abhi Sports Arena, for his support in developing sports in the district and for organizing such competitions. He suggested conducting more programs to encourage the youth to take up sports.
This badminton championship, scheduled from October 2 to 4, will feature competitions in the Under-15 Boys' Singles, Open Men's Singles, and Open Men's Doubles categories. The matches will be held at the Government Mini Stadium and Abhi Sports Arena in Wanaparthy. The championship is being organized under the aegis of the District Sports Authority.
