Hyderabad: PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday made it clear that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao should resign to his post as soon as the Andhra Pradesh government begins works of new projects at Pothireddypadu Head Regulator.
He was addressing the daylong hunger protest organized at Gandhi Bhavan against the State government's silence on AP's attempts to draw more water from Pothireddypadu Head Regulator.
Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, AICC secretaries Vamsichand Reddy, SA Sampath Kumar, MP A Revanth Reddy, former MLA T Rammohan Reddy and others participated in the hunger strike.
Uttam said that the Chief Minister should resign owing moral responsibility as the AP goes ahead with Pothireddypadu expansion works. He alleged that the AP government was daring to take up expansion works of Pothireddypadu due to the incompetence of the Chief Minister of TS. He said that AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has been talking about the project, while Telangana CM was silent. Andhra Pradesh Ministers have been claiming that their government has issued the GO on PRP expansion after consulting Telangana government. He said that Congress opposed in the past when the capacity of PRP was enhanced to 44,000 cusecs.
He said that the present engineer in chief of Telangana Irrigation department retired in 2011 and he is continued till now. He wanted to know as to how the ENC could participate in finalisation of tenders worth thousands of crores.
He wanted to know as to how the capacity of lift project of Laxmidevipalle has been reduced to 2 TMC from 11 TMC. He said that the Engineer-in-Chief of Irrigation has been acting at the behest of Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao.
He alleged that the Kaleswaram project has been redesigned to draw water with pumps just to take commissions while there was scope to take the water through gravity.
He made it clear that they would fight against the Pothireddypadu and would not go back taking up Chalo Pothireddypadu programme. He said that the PRP issue was the life and death one for Telangana.
MP Revanth Reddy alleged that dramas of Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao and his AP counterpart YS Jagan have been exposed. He said that Congress leaders P Janardhan Reddy and Marri Shashidhar Reddy had opposed increasing the capacity of Pothireddypadu in the past.
He reminded the statement of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao that Rayalaseema would be made green. He alleged that the GO of Andhra Pradesh has been prepared at the official residence of Chief Minister of Telangana.
