Vikarabad: District Collector Ayesha Masrat Khanam suggested both police and regional transport departments work jointly to reduce the road accidents in the district. A meeting on road safety was held here at conference hall on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said encourage two-wheeler raiders to wear helmets. Impose fines on those who violate the rule, she added. She also said an awareness campaign should be held during the meetings of women self-help groups, so that the women could encourage their men to wear helmets.

She directed concerned authorities to regulate the traffic wherever is necessary. The Collector emphasised about creating awareness on safe driving. She instructed the authorities to lay roads for smooth riding and arrange speed breakers to control the speed.

SP Narayana said people should not consume alcohol publicly by parking vehicles in front of the wine shops. The owners of the shops be alerted on this issue. Additional SP R Bhaskar, RTO Dr Vani, DM&HO Sudhakar, EE (PR) Manohar Rao, municipal commissioner Bhogeshwarlu, DCSO Padmaja and others were present.
