Dasara rush grips Hyd-Vja highway!
Choutuppal (Yadadri-Bhongir): It being the Dasara festive season coupled with holidays, and the weekend a massive rush of vehicles was triggered on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. With people travelling from Hyderabad to their native places and others heading to different destinations to spend the festive holidays with their families, national highways have witnessed a significant surge in traffic.
The Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway-65, in particular, has been witnessing heavy congestion, with vehicles lining up for long distances. At the Pantangi Toll Plaza in Choutuppal mandal of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, the rush has intensified, forcing motorists to wait for considerable periods to pay toll charges and proceed towards their destinations. Compared to normal days, the number of vehicles on the highway has increased substantially. Cars, buses, lorries and other vehicles have added to the congestion, resulting in slow-moving traffic at the toll plaza.
The impact of the traffic surge has also been felt along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. Motorists have expressed frustration over the extended travel time, with even short distances taking much longer than usual to cover. Despite the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) increasing the number of buses to accommodate the festive rush, bus stations have remained crowded with passengers heading to their hometowns.
Buses have been packed with passengers, leaving many struggling to find seats and travel comfortably. Those hoping to celebrate Dasara with their families have been facing additional difficulties due to the heavy rush. Commuters have stressed the need for advance measures to manage the surge in traffic during festivals and consecutive holidays. They have urged the authorities to introduce adequate arrangements at toll plazas to prevent vehicles from piling up and deploy additional personnel to regulate traffic.
Passengers also called upon traffic police to monitor congestion continuously and streamline vehicle movement to minimise delays and ensure smoother journeys during peak travel periods. A similar situation was witnessed at Gudur toll plaza of Bibinagar of Yadadri-Bhongir District and Inpamula toll plaza of Nalgonda District.
