Nalgonda: In general, a majority of politicians give many assurances during the poll campaign to get votes and simply forget once they are elected to power.

They spend the five years term with their own agenda and lay focus on getting back the money they spent during elections.

But how many will dare to take a public opinion about their ruling after completion of one or two years tenure? Interestingly, a leader who won as MPTC had created a record in politics by taking the referendum about his own ruling.

Nereda is a village in Chityal mandal of Nalgonda district with its people politically very active. Congress candidate Dubbaka Narsimha Reddy, who was elected as MPTC from Nereda in 2001, strived for the development of village during his five years tenure.

After two years, he wanted to know the public opinion about his services and working style. In this context, he held a referendum about his work with the help of an NGO and scripted a new record in Indian politics.

While as many as 1,600 votes were polled, of them, 1,510 votes were casted in favour of Dubbaka Narsimha Reddy's working style.

Speaking to The Hans India, Narsimha Reddy stated that it was a minimum duty of a leader to know the opinion of people frequently to fulfill their aspirations. He informed that he was the first person to hold the referendum about his work. He thanked the villagers who always stood with him during his five years tenure .

Meanwhile, Narsimha Reddy contested as MLA candidate from Praja Rajyam party from Nalgonda constituency in 2009 and from TRS in 2014, but failed to win both the times. During 2018 Assembly elections, he again joined Congress party.

In those days, candidates used to spend Rs 5 to 6 thousand for MPTC elections. But now, the election expenditure has raised to Rs 30 lakh for MPTC election. This money culture must change, otherwise good Samaritans of the society will not come into politics," he opined.
