Hyderabad: Couple arrested for selling their newborn

Hyderabad: A couple who sold their 2 months old baby was arrested by the Jeedimetla police on Sunday. The couple was identified as, Madan Singh and Saritha.

According to police, the couple are construction workers and due to the lockdown they did not have any earnings.

Moreover the woman Saritha delivered the girl child two months ago and as they did not have any earnings, the husband Madan decided to sell their newborn for Rs 22000/- to a broker woman Seshu, from their locality. The couple also had a 7 year old boy.

However, as the neighbors of the couple could not locate the newborn, they alerted the cops, who then took the couple into custody and after further questioning the Madan revealed that he sold his baby as he was unable to earn money, neither was he able to fetch for his liquor as he was a drunkard, said the police.

Nevertheless, the newborn was rescued from the clutches of the broker and was sent to Child Welfare Committee along with her parents with a strict warning to not repeat the mistake and the broker was arrested.
