Hyderabad: A 35-year-old man Rashid Ali Khan was admitted to Gandhi Hospital on June 8 after he tested positive of Covid-19. While he was undergoing treatment he succumbed to the virus on June 9 and his family was informed about his death by the hospital management.

However, things turned topsy-turvy when the family members of Rashid went to the hospital to collect the dead body on June 10. After they arrived at the hospital, they were asked by the staff to identify their person from the dead bodies present in the mortuary, but the family could not locate the deceased.

But, Rashid's family realised that their son's body had already left the hospital premises as on the same day that is June 9, another person named Mahmood from Pahadishareef who died in the hospital was kept exactly beside Rashid's body.

As Mahmood's family had arrived early the staff handed over Rashid's body to them, which the former's family cremated the same day.

However, the issue came to light on June 11 when the DCP of North Zone, Kalmeshwar Shingenavar arrived at the hospital on Thursday evening. While inspecting, it was discovered that Mahmood's body was still in the mortuary whereas in the record book it was mentioned that his body was handed over to the family.

The DCP further explained, "After realising the fault of Gandhi Hospital management, the families of both Rashid and Mahmood were called to the hospital and explained about the situation. Both the families agreed to our terms and decided to bury Mahmood's body.

Rashid's family was satisfied with the fact that their child was buried according to Islamic traditions," added the DCP.
