Hyderabad: With coronavirus threat looming large over the State, Telangana government on Saturday decided to organise 'Sudarshana Mrityunjaya Homams' in major temples in the State and the festivities including Ugadi Panchanga Shravanam and Sita Rama Kalyanam in Bhadrachalam on Sri Rama Navami would be telecast live on television channels for the benefit of the devotees.

This was announced by the Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy along with government advisor KV Ramana Chary on Saturday after reviewing with the officials of the department.

The minister said that as per the custom, government takes up Ugadi celebrations every year but as part of the efforts to contain deadly coronavirus threat, the festival will be celebrated without any fanfare.

He said that as per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, already the darshan in all the temples in State has been cancelled. As the chief minister has asked to cancel all the celebrations of festivals including Ugadi and Sri Rama Navami, the programmes would be organised in a simple manner.

The minister said that on the occasion of Ugadi festival, the 'Panchanga Shravanam' would be taken up in Endowments department head office at 10 am on March 25.

He called upon the devotees to stay at their homes and listen to the Panchang Shravanam on television channels as the programme would be telecast live.

The minister further said that the Sri Rama Navami celebrations in Bhadrachalam would be organised in temple premises. He called upon the people not to have celebrations in open areas. The 'Talambaralu' would be provided to the devotees who book this facility online.

Government would be offering the 'Pattu Vastrams' to the deity. The temple authorities have not printed invitation card for the Kalyanotsavam this year in wake of the coronavirus threat. Devotees should understand the situation because of the spreading virus.

The minister said that the department would be organising Sudarshana Mrityunjaya homams in temple. Endowments department commissioner Anil Kumar, additional commissioner Srinivas Rao, joint commissioner Krishnaveni and others also present.
