Hyderabad: Heavy rain brings cool breather to sizzling city

Hyderabad: After months of hot days, people in the city heaved a huge sigh of relief as the city received heavy to moderate rains on Sunday. Areas like LB Nagar, Hayath Nagar, Nagole, BN Reddy, Meerpet, Hastinapuram, Vanasthalipuram, Malkajgiri, Uppal and Secunderabad witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall.

The day which started with temperature around 30 degree Celsius saw it drop to a pleasant 22 degress Celsius after the showers. People of all age groups were seen enjoying and welcoming the cool weather and rain on roads from their balconies and terraces.

According to the officials, thunder showers, lightning and high winds (30 to 40 kmph per hour) along with rain in one or two places are expected in the next three days in the city and state.

Officials at IMD said the reason for the rains was the low pressure area over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area. The trough from Chattisgarh to Lakshadweep area across Telangana, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka and Kerala at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

The officials of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall in Hyderabad for the next two to three days. The GHMC and disaster response team have been alerted and deployed at several sensitive areas of the city.
