Hyderabad: Officials on their toes to detect coronavirus in Rajendranagar

Rajendranagar: Following the first confirmed case of coronavirus reported in Telangana, the DM&HO officials in Rangareddy have geared up to tackle any sort of emergency and preparations are on the foot to ensure adequate supply of medicines in all the government hospital in the district.

"In Rajendranagar, whenever upper respiratory tract infection cases are being reported, we are screening them thoroughly. If it is general upper respiratory tract infection, we are giving them antibiotics. However, if there is any travel history of the patients, we are notifying the same to the state-level agency and immediately referring those patients to Gandhi Hospital where the appropriate medical facilities are available to treat this sort of cases more accurately," Dr Srujana, Deputy DMHO, Rajendranagar, Rangareddy district.

Clarifying that no case with travel history has been detected as yet in Rajendranagar, she said "We have already informed all the line hospitals here to refer any such cases to Gandhi Hospital immediately and even report it to DM&HO as well." Rajendranagar has three upper primary health centers and one primary health center running under direct supervision of DMHO. The recently formed five Basti Dawakhanas are also being supervised by DMHO and stocks of medicine are being supplied.

"Since the Basti Dawakhas don't have separate drug budget, they are getting their medicines stock from UPHCs. Each UPHC will look after two Basti Dawakhanas by supplying them adequate stocks," she added.

Elaborating about the stockpile of medicines being supplied to the line hospitals she said "We are providing all necessary medicines to the hospitals through TSMSIDC Shivrampally such as Paracetamol, Pain killers, antibiotic, calcium, iron, multi vitamin tablets, skin ointments, anti-allergic cetirizine and, if necessary, anthelmintics."

Besides this, the DMMO Rangareddy is regularly holding review and cluster meetings along with medical officers in the district to keep them alert and proactive to tackle any sort of emergency. Recently a district-level review meeting was held with all medical officers where the officials were told to be proactive in directing and dealing cases with imminent epidemic. Another cluster meeting was also organized in Shivrampally with doctors assigned in Rajendranagar to take stock of the situation.
