The representatives and supporters of International Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) on Tuesday took out a huge protest rally on the Khammam roads demanding the Central and the State governments to solve the issues of contract workers working in many of their departments.

Khammam: The representatives and supporters of International Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) on Tuesday took out a huge protest rally on the Khammam roads demanding the Central and the State governments to solve the issues of contract workers working in many of their departments.

The rally that began at Pavilion Grounds ended at the District Labour Office. During the protest, the IFTU leaders and supporters raised slogans against the Central and the State governments.

Speaking on the occasion, IFTU State leader G Ramaiah demanded the governments to give minimum salaries to contract workers. He informed that the for the last seven years, the government was paying the same salaries sans any hike.

"The State and the Central governments are not paying attention towards solving the issues of contract workers," he alleged, recalling the promises of the Chief Minster K Chandrashekar Rao during the elections who had promised to enhance the salaries of workers once back in power, but failed to keep his word.

Later, the agitators submitted a memorandum to the District Labour Officer at his office.

IFTU district president A Venkanna, general secretary G Ramaiah, leaders of the union A Ashok, Y Babu, A Rama Rao, D Srinivas Rao, Rambabu, K Pulla Rao, I Venkanna, G Guravaiah, T Ramulu and others took part in the protest rally.
