Jurala row: Farmers need not worry, assures Megha Reddy
Wanaparthy: Farmers under the Jurala project command area need not worry; measures are being taken to ensure not a single acre of crop withers, assured local MLA Thudi Megha Reddy on Monday. He said a delegation of ministers and MLAs is set to visit Karnataka.
Reddy noted the government is focusing specifically on supplying water to standing crops. He mentioned that Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has already written to Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar, requesting the regulated release of 5,000 cusecs of Krishna water daily for 15 days to safeguard crops under the Jurala, Bhima, Nettempadu, and Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation schemes.
The minister highlighted that approximately four lakh acres in Telangana rely on the Krishna water through the four irrigation schemes. He emphasised that measures are being taken to utilise available water efficiently.
The MLA added that steps are being taken to meet DKS, alongside district ministers and other MLAs, to explain the water requirements of farmers.
A delegation comprising ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, along with MLAs Megha Reddy, Madhusudan Reddy, and Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, is scheduled to depart from Hyderabad at 5 pm during the day. They are set to meet Shivakumar at 8 pm. The MLA stated that the meeting is expected to yield good news for farmers possibly by tonight or Wednesday morning.
“Farmers should not lose heart. The government is striving to provide water through all available means until the crops are harvested; our primary objective is to ensure that not a single acre under the Jurala ayacut dries up,” said the MLA.
