Power disruptions threaten paddy crop in Yadadri Bhongir
Rajapet(Yadadri-Bhongir): Farmers in Rajapet mandal of Yadadri Bhongir district are facing difficulties as alleged irregular power supply during crucial agricultural hours is affecting irrigation. With groundwater levels declining and water becoming increasingly scarce, farmers are struggling to provide adequate irrigation to their crops.
Erravolla Pentaiah, a farmer from Doodi Venkatapur village, said his paddy field was drying up due to the delay in power supply. With no electricity available at the required time to operate the irrigation motor, he was forced to arrange water through a tanker to save his crop. He expressed concern that the paddy crop could wither if water is not supplied on time.
Several other farmers are also resorting to tankers to transport water to their fields as their crops face the threat of drying up. Farmers said they had cultivated paddy based on the limited availability of water, but declining groundwater levels have now intensified the problem.
Those dependent on agricultural wells and borewells said frequent interruptions in power supply are preventing them from operating their motors when needed. Having already borrowed money to cultivate their crops, farmers are now being forced to spend additional amounts on tanker water to protect their investments.
The farmers urged the authorities to ensure uninterrupted and timely power supply for agricultural purposes and take immediate measures to prevent crops from drying up. They said reliable electricity and adequate irrigation support are essential to protect the standing paddy crop and ease their financial burden.
