Hyderabad: As many as 902 candidates have remained in the fray for the 197 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) which will go to polls on May 6 as part of the first phase of local body elections. The notification was issued for the first phase on April 22.

Though 1,835 candidates had filed papers on behalf of various political parties and as Independents, 933 withdrew their nominations, according to the State Election Commission.

After the withdrawals, 174 candidates from BJP, 194 from the Congress and 202 from TRS are in the fray.

The TRS is facing rebel trouble in Bhongir district as about 12 candidates are in the contest for five seats.

Here, the Congress too is facing rebel trouble with 11 candidates in the fray.

In Adilabad district, the Congress, TRS and BJP are contesting all the six seats that will go to polls in the first phase.

In this district, apart from the candidates of the main and small parties, four Independents are in the fray taking the total number of contesting candidates to 26.
