Singareni Ready to Partner with US Companies in Critical Minerals Sector
In Short
US Consulate delegation discusses technology collaboration, proposed pumped storage power plants and data centre opportunities with SCCL CMD

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL)
Kothagudem: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with American companies in the critical minerals sector, exploring opportunities for technology transfer, joint ventures, research and business partnerships.
A high-level delegation led by Meredith Metzler, Political and Economic Chief of the US Consulate in Hyderabad, met Singareni Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday evening and held detailed discussions on potential areas of cooperation.
During the meeting, the CMD explained that Singareni, with its extensive experience in the mining sector, had entered the critical minerals segment and was already exploring joint ventures and technological partnerships with several countries.
Responding positively, the US delegation said there were considerable opportunities for Singareni to work with American companies engaged in critical minerals exploration, processing and related technologies.
The delegation showed particular interest in the facilities available at the Geo Science Laboratory recently established by Singareni in Kothagudem. Discussions also covered the possibility of extracting rare earth elements and other valuable minerals from the overburden generated by opencast mines.
Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti said Singareni was making progress in the critical minerals sector with the encouragement and support of both the State and Central governments. He stated that the company was keen to attract foreign investments and establish partnerships with international technology providers and research institutions.
The US Consulate representatives informed that several American companies were interested in such collaborations and invited Singareni to participate in a critical minerals conference scheduled to be held in the United States in April next year.
The discussions also focused on the growing demand for electricity due to the rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data centres. The American delegation said it was exploring suitable locations for establishing data centres and expressed interest in the Singareni belt of Telangana.
Singareni officials explained that the company had proposed pumped storage power projects at several locations by utilising its closed opencast mines. These projects could help provide uninterrupted power during peak demand hours, particularly for data centres.
They also indicated that such projects could be developed through suitable investments and strategic partnerships, adding that water availability from the nearby Godavari river could be an additional advantage.
The US delegation observed that Telangana was emerging as a favourable destination for data centre investments, with several American companies already establishing facilities in the State and others exploring opportunities. The region’s infrastructure and other facilities were considered favourable for such investments.
During the interaction, the Singareni CMD invited the American delegation to visit the company’s mines and Geo Science Laboratory to gain first-hand knowledge of its mining operations, research facilities and future development plans.
The US delegation included Meredith Metzler, Political and Economic Chief; Srimali Kari and Shiba Tripathi, Political and Economic Specialists; and Sunel Kumar, Commercial Specialist.
Representing Singareni were Director (Projects and Planning) K. Venkateswarlu, General Manager (Marketing and Coordination) T. Srinivas, General Manager (Business Development) K. Ramadasu, General Manager (Exploration) Pankaj Kulshreshtha, General Manager (Power Projects) Guru Prasad and other senior officials.
