Hyderabad: Taken aback by the increase in the number of cases under GHMC limits and the way the lockdown rules have been thrown to winds by the people ever since the state government gave certain relaxations, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday directed the police and GHMC officials to implement the lockdown guidelines strictly.

What has caused concern to the government is that while the situation in other districts has come under control, Hyderabad continues to witness a surge in cases.

L B Nagar, Vanasthalipuram and Hayathnagar are throwing a challenge to the authorities. The GHMC commissioner and senior police officials visited these areas and submitted a report to the Chief Minister.

Based on all these reports, the Chief Minister held an eight-hour review meeting and directed the officials to ensure strict implementation of the guidelines. He said it has been noticed that even in cars more than two people were travelling and at many places people have been found not to be using even masks.

According to officials, all the 31 positive cases were reported in Hyderabad. One of them was a migrant labourer who died taking the overall death toll to 30.

After the opening of liquor shops in Hyderabad, people started coming out of their homes in big numbers. Police also did not take any action against the people moving on the roads which wore a deserted look till recently.

Official sources said that the CM had instructed the police and the municipal authorities to monitor the movement of the people closely in the Red Zones and also stop movement of the people outside their colonies in many parts of the city.

KCR asked the officials to take action against those who violated Covid norms. He also reviewed the status of resumption of construction activity and trade activity in different parts of the state. The CM wanted the officials to ensure safety measures be taken strictly at the workplaces.
