Telangana DGP CV Anand
Telangana DGP CV Anand has taken a serious view of the coercive extortion and begging-related activities carried out by some transgender individuals at traffic signals, major junctions, commercial complexes, and venues hosting auspicious events. Responding promptly to the surge of public complaints on social media, he ordered strict action across the state. The DGP recalled that during his earlier tenure as Hyderabad Police Commissioner, he had curbed similar rackets and harassment by begging gangs through a special drive.
With such harassment on the rise again, instructions are being issued to Commissioners of all police commissionerates in the state to immediately launch a special drive. He issued a stern warning that strong legal measures would be taken against such people who indulge in illegal activities and thus instill fear among motorists as well as the general public.
According to the DGP, the government of Telangana is genuinely trying to integrate transgender people into the main stream with respect. He further added that these people are currently being integrated through traffic assistant posts as well as HYDRA missions.
However, the DGP categorically stated that even though the government is providing dignified employment opportunities, there will be absolutely no tolerance for those who turn into anti-social elements and harass the public through illicit activities or by operating begging rackets.
