Amid water and power shortages in the state due to the effects of El Niño, which are likely to persist until the next monsoon, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held a meeting with officials and directed them to prepare an action plan. He assured them that the government was ready to procure power from all available sources and would allocate the necessary funds to meet the demand.
He also asked them to take up a massive public campaign through social media and other forms to create awareness about the problems that may arise from the El Niño effect and how people should conserve water and power.
In the meantime, it has been decided to hold an informal cabinet meeting on October 12, where a detailed discussion on the El Niño effect and the measures that need to be taken, particularly in view of the upcoming rabi season would be held. Later during the day, the Chief Minister will hold a video conference with farmers.
The government also proposes to call for an all-party meeting to discuss the issue and finalise a long-term plan to meet the challenge.
