Tribal Congress seeks to strengthen grassroots
Narayanapet: Congress leaders called for strengthening the Tribal Congress organisation from the village level and developing new leadership among tribal communities. As part of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, applications were invited from leaders and party workers for the formation of Tribal Congress committees at the district Congress office here on Tuesday.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of DCC president K Prashanth Kumar Reddy, with State Tribal Congress Vice-Chairman V Lingam Naik and State observer Srinu Naik attending as chief guests. Applications were received from party leaders and workers for various organisational responsibilities.
Naik said the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan was not limited to forming committees but also aimed at identifying leadership qualities among grassroots workers and providing them opportunities. He called for strengthening the Tribal Congress from the village to district level and creating awareness among workers about the Constitution, tribal rights, PESA and the Forest Rights Act.
Lingam Naik said long-serving Congress workers should be identified and given appropriate organisational responsibilities. He urged those appointed to remain accessible to people and workers at the grassroots level and work to address the issues faced by tribal women, poor families and small traders.
Kumar Reddy said the objective was to build a strong Tribal Congress organisation across Narayanpet district. A mechanism would be established to identify issues faced by tribal people in every village and take them to the mandal and district levels, he said.
He added that the committees would be formed based on the applications received through the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. Leaders entrusted with responsibilities should work among the people rather than limiting themselves to their positions, he said.
