CM Yogi: Revered Saints of Gorakshpeeth Dedicated Their Lives to the Shri Ram Temple

Gorakhpur, September 30. Highlighting the contribution of Gorakshpeeth to the construction of the Shri Ram temple at the birthplace of Shri Ram in Ayodhya, Gorakshpeethadishwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that Mahant Digvijay Nath Ji was present at the time of the manifestation of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, while Mahant Avaidyanath Ji led the 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mukti Yagya Samiti' to remove the structure symbolizing slavery. Both revered saints of Gorakshpeeth united the saint community and dedicated their lives to the cause of the Shri Ram temple, society, and the nation. It is a hallmark of great personalities to align themselves with the times, society, and the nation.

The Chief Minister spoke at a tribute meeting on Wednesday, Ashwin Krishna Chaturthi, the day of a week-long event honoring the 57th death anniversary of Yugpurush Mahant Digvijay Nath Ji Maharaj and the 12th death anniversary of Rashtrasant Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj. In his address the Chief Minister paid tribute to both Mahants and said that stability is the most important key to success, in life. He added that stability helps us move forward and grow. This idea comes to us clearly when we look at the lives of these two saints—Mahant Digvijay Nath Ji Maharaj and Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj. Their lives teach us the power of values and strong character.

If You Are a Devotee of Shiva, Remain Equanimous in Both Favorable and Adverse Circumstances

Elaborating on the significance of Lord Shiva and devotion to Him, the Chief Minister stated that we must strive to embody the qualities of the deity we praise. If we are devotees of Shiva, we should—like Lord Shankar—remain equanimous and guileless amidst both favorable and adverse circumstances. We must pave the way for public welfare even amidst contradictions. Lord Shiva held poison in His throat during adverse times, which is why He is known as 'Neelkanth' (the Blue-Throated One). Embodying societal contradictions while setting ideals for the welfare of society and the public—this is the essence of *Shivatva* (the spirit of Lord Shiva).

Mahant Avaidyanath’s life mission was an extension of Mahant Digvijay Nath’s ideals

The Chief Minister stated that the life mission of the late Mahant Avaidyanath represented an extension of the ideals and values of Mahant Digvijay Nath within their lineage of gurus. Hindu society possesses the inherent capacity to rectify the anomalies and inconsistencies that arise within it; this very spirit is evident in the lives of both these revered Mahants. While Mahant Digvijay Nath advocated for rapidly bolstering the strength of Hindu society, Mahant Avaidyanath worked ceaselessly to unite it. The *Sah-bhoj* (community dining) campaign he initiated was aimed at binding the fragmented strength of Hindu society into a unified whole.

Mahant Ji expanded the reach of quality education

CM Yogi noted that Mahant Digvijay Nath held the view that education in independent India must be of high quality. Mahant Avaidyanath not only championed quality education and its expansion but also linked it to self-reliance. He integrated education with skill development and established numerous institutions dedicated to both. He also instituted scholarships to encourage sports alongside academics. To provide better accommodation for students, he established the Pratap Ashram and other hostels.

Gorakshpeeth instills a sense of duty towards the nation: Balaknath

Paying tribute to the two Mahants at the ceremony, Mahant Balaknath—head of the Mastnath Peeth at Asthal Bohar (Rohtak) and an MLA in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly—remarked that both revered saints strengthened the identity of *Sanatan* culture while leading Gorakshpeeth. Gorakshpeeth instills a sense of duty towards the nation in everyone. Under the leadership of the Peeth’s current head, Yogi Adityanath, the renown of Uttar Pradesh is spreading across the country and the world. Yogi ji works day and night for public welfare and development without any discrimination.

Mahant Avaidyanath was a saint of divine insight and foresight: Dr. Ramkamalacharya

Speaking on the occasion, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Dr. Ramkamalacharya Ji Maharaj—who arrived from the Shri Ram Janaki Temple in Varanasi—stated that the late Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj was a saint possessed of divine insight and foresight. His role in the construction of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be remembered for ages to come. Praising Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he remarked that, driven by his accomplishments, Yogi ji would continue his victorious journey and become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a third term.

Gorakshpeeth plays a leading role in cow protection and the preservation of national culture: Vidya Chaitanya

Swami Vidya Chaitanya Ji Maharaj, who arrived from Naimisharanya, stated that Gorakshpeeth has always played a pioneering role in the protection of cows and the preservation of Sanatan Dharma and national culture. The current head of Gorakshpeeth, Yogi Adityanath, is carrying forward the resolutions of his predecessors—the late Mahant Avaidyanath Ji and the late Mahant Digvijayanath Ji. Mahant Yogi Lalnath Ji Maharaj, visiting from Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh), paid tribute to the memories of the two late Mahants and noted that 'Rashtra Sant' (Saint of the Nation) Avaidyanath Ji took charge of the movement to liberate Ram Janmabhoomi at a time when no one else was prepared to do so. Mahant Raju Das of Hanumangarhi, Ayodhya, remarked that the construction of the Ram Temple was the mission of the late Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj's life.
