CM allocated 540 cr for YSR Kanti Velugu: Narayana Swamy

Chittoor: Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has introduced YSR Kanti Velugu scheme with a great vision for preventing eye related diseases among students and allocated Rs 540 crore for the scheme.

No chief minister in the country has taken up such scheme to protect interests of all sections of people, he said. Narayana Swamy has launched YSR Kanti Velugu Programme at ZP General Body Meeting Hall here on Thursday.

Addressing the public meeting the Dy Chief Minister explained the salient features of the new scheme and appealed to the medical staff and teachers to make use of the scheme. Under the scheme, in the first phase, all the students of both government and private schools will be provided eye check-up, covering 5.70 lakhs students in the district.

In the second phase, all the people of the district will be covered with the aim of eradicating blindness, he said. He stated that students of corporate schools were mostly suffering from the eye related diseases due to their work pressures. He reiterated that Chief Minister was relentlessly struggling for the welfare of the people in all respects.

MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy has made an appeal to the government to fill up the vacancies of doctors , nurses, lab technicians and pharmacists with immediate effect. District Collector N B Gupta said that instructions were given to the medical and public health staff to make the Kanti Velugu Programme a success.

Dr E Pandu Rangaiah, Superintendent, Chittoor Government Hospital , Dr. Ramagiddaiah, DMHO, Dr Saralamma, DCH, N Pandurangaswamy, DEO, and others were present.
