UGC to come up with revised academic calendar, guidelines for final year exams
The University Grants Commission (UGC) is likely to come out with a revised academic calendar and guidelines on the final year exams soon in a week's time.
It is learned that the exams for final year students which are scheduled to be held in July may get cancelled in the view of the rise in coronavirus cases. Following this, the commencement of classes is also likely to get postponed to October.
Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal directed a panel, set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and headed by RC Kuhad, vice-chancellor of Haryana University to revisit the guidelines issued earlier for intermediate and terminal semester examination, and the academic calendar in view of the rising coronavirus positive cases in the country.
Meanwhile, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have decided to cancel the exams of all the university students promoting them based on their performances in previous exams. However, students who are unhappy with the marks accorded to them can take the exams later when the pandemic subsides.
And the commencement of classes in the new academic year is likely to get postponed to October. As per the guidelines issued by Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on June 29, the schools, colleges and educational institutions will be remained closed till July 31.
