Open plot turns into dump as people litter

Nacharam: An open plot in Nacharam has been turned into a dump yard and is getting harmful day by day. Animals, including cows and dogs crowd the place, jostling to consumer domestic waste, which could be harmful for their health.

A Santosh, a resident, said, "The garbage that is thrown in the open plot can be harmful for animals like cows, as this garbage contains even plastic waste. The cows may swallow plastic waste and it will be harmful for their health.

The garbage is not removed from the plot and sometimes the garbage is burnt. The smoke that comes with the burning of garbage causes pollution and affects our health too."

"The GHMC workers do not clean the garbage regularly. People from the nearby areas throw their garbage here. When the workers are asked to remove the garbage from the plot, the usual response is given by them is that the GHMC van would come and remove them. Neither the workers remove the garbage nor do the GHMC vans come to remove it," said V Kalpana, another resident.
